True to the series’ established painstaking attention to detail, designers conducted heavy research to perfect the look and feel of individual players while preserving the features and functionality used for 2K20’s NBA stars. In other words, WNBA athletes will simulate just as well as their NBA counterparts.

That being said, with the inclusion of the WNBA, there were a few key areas that warranted deeper investigation on the style side. Longer hairstyles now have full hair physics across the board, meaning all hair interacts with motion better than before. New categories have also been introduced including buns, ponytails and braids.

Aided by WNBA greats like Candace Parker and Breanna Stewart, 2K used its advanced motion capture rig to create thousands of new animations for everything from jump shots to layups and celebrations. With this new data, player behavior should best reflect the real WNBA. Cambage and Griner will dominate down low, while Chelsea Gray swats everything in sight.

All these features and more will be part of NBA 2K20’s WNBA Season mode. It features all 12 teams through the 2019 season with a little help from legends like Diana, Stewie, Candace and Bird. In other words, 2K20’s WNBA offering is limited to a select mode for the time being. However, now that many of the base models have been developed on the latest technology, we expect the league’s implementation to expand in the years to come.

NBA 2K20 releases September 6 on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC.
